3 suspected ‘one chance’ robbers escape lynching in Abuja

Three suspected “one chance” syndicate members narrowly escaped being lynched by a mob in Wuse 2, Abuja.

A witness, Raymond Jonathan, said the incident occurred at Chicken Junction, Wuse 2, on Friday when the three suspects inside an unmarked taxi allegedly attempted to dispossess a female passenger of her belongings.

He said as soon as the victim boarded the vehicle around Chicken Junction, one of the suspects allegedly tried to force her to hand over her phone after they threatened her to reveal her bank account secret code.

According to him, the victim raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of passersby around the junction. They flagged down the vehicle and dragged the suspects out of the car and started to attack them.

Jonathan added that some police operatives later arrived in a Hilux van and forcefully took the suspects away from the mob.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, who confirmed the incident said the police swiftly responded to a distress call in the early hours of Friday, where two people were found lying on the floor around Chicken Junction, Wuse 2, Abuja.

She said police operatives arrived at the scene and promptly rescued the victims, who were still alive, and rushed them to the National Hospital for medical treatment.

According to her, some members of the public who had gathered at the scene dispersed upon seeing the police, and no suspects were arrested
