27 YEAR OLD MAN IN COURT OVER robbing student of school fees

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Kolofo Adejo, for allegedly robbing a student of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, of her valuables.

Adejo was charged by the police with armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, Bamikole Olasunkanmi, claimed that the defendant committed the offence on August 4, 2021, in the Ado Ekiti Magisterial District.

Olasunkanmi said, “The defendant was reasonably suspected to have robbed one Falodun Grace, a student of BOUEST, of her phone and school fees on August 4, 2021, at Ikere Ekiti.

“The offence is contrary to Section 1(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap.398 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.”

He urged the court to remand the defendant pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The magistrate, Abdulhameen Lawal, ordered the remand of the defendant in a custodial centre.

The matter was adjourned till September 21, 2021.

In another development, an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court ordered the remand of 28-year-old Bande Abdulahi for allegedly kidnapping an Ekiti State All Progressives Congress chieftain, Adebusuyi Ebenezer, along Ilawe/Erijiyan Ekiti Road on April 22, 2021.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Adewale, the offence runs contrary to Section 3(a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law of Ekiti State, 2015.”

Adewale urged the court to remand him in a custodial centre pending when legal advice would be obtained from the DPP.

The magistrate, Abdulhameen Lawal, granted the request of the prosecutor and remanded the defendant.

The matter was adjourned till September 15, 2021 for mention.
