25 Vehicles Seized as Police Enforce Traffic Laws in Calabar, Prosecutes Offenders

Cross River State Police Command has impounded 25 vehicles in Calabar for operating without valid registration plates or using altered, covered, defaced and unauthorised dealer number plates.

The command said the enforcement followed a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at curbing the use of vehicles with concealed or irregular registration plates.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the operation was carried out across the Calabar metropolis on July 3, 2026.

According to him, 25 vehicles were intercepted for violating the directive, while the owners have been subjected to the appropriate administrative and legal processes and are being prosecuted in line with relevant laws.

Akata explained that the exercise is intended to enhance public safety, improve vehicle identification and deny criminal elements the anonymity often associated with unregistered or obscured number plates.

He said the command remains committed to intelligence-led, proactive and community-oriented policing, adding that the enforcement exercise would continue across the state.

The police spokesperson urged motorists to comply with all vehicle registration and traffic regulations to avoid sanctions.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by promptly reporting suspicious persons, activities or emergencies through the command’s dedicated emergency lines.
