2027 Is Still Far – APC Tells El-Rufai, Urges Him to Find a Job or Go Back to School

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to desist from launching premature political attacks against the ruling party, reminding him that the 2027 general elections are still a long way off.

Reacting to El-Rufai’s recent remarks during a meeting with African Democratic Congress (ADC) supporters in Sokoto State, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, criticized the former governor’s comments, which painted a bleak future for Nigeria under another APC administration.

El-Rufai had warned that the country may not survive another four years of APC leadership, claiming that national cohesion was at risk if the party retained power in 2027.

“If we allow APC to continue, the little that remains of our national cohesion may be destroyed. This is not just an election, it’s the fight of our lives,” El-Rufai declared during the ADC grassroots mobilisation event.

However, in a sharp response, Senator Basiru described El-Rufai’s actions as premature and unnecessary, advising him to find more productive ways to spend his time.

“Why is he in a hurry? 2027 is far. The guidelines for the 2027 elections won’t be out until February 2026,” Basiru said.

“El-Rufai should go and find a job to do. He can go back to school to enrich his knowledge or play with his grandchildren.”

The APC scribe also emphasized that it is not yet time for political campaigns and cautioned political actors to focus on national development instead of fanning the flames of early politicking.

El-Rufai, once a strong ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been increasingly critical of the APC-led government in recent times. His latest comments have further fueled speculation about his future political alignments and ambitions ahead of 2027.
