2027: Elections are not conducted on Facebook or Twitter – Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office is sufficient to secure his re-election in 2027.

Shettima made the remarks while speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to the vice-president, electoral victories are not determined by online debates but by tangible political structures and leadership credibility.

“Elections are not won by noise or nostalgia,” he said. “Elections are not conducted on Facebook or Twitter. They are won by coalitions, credibility and conviction.”

Shettima argued that Tinubu’s political experience and record in office place him ahead of any potential challenger, insisting that anyone contesting against the president in 2027 is already positioning themselves for defeat.

“With the experience of our president as our shield and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe that 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility,” he said. “And by the fear of God, we shall have a renewable blessing.”

He, however, acknowledged that Nigeria operates a democratic system where every eligible citizen has the right to contest elections.

Shettima added that the APC is approaching the 2027 general elections with confidence, citing what he described as the party’s strong leadership base and governance record.
