Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced that coalition leaders will fully support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi made the remarks on Wednesday in Port Harcourt during a press briefing with journalists, where he emphasized the coalition’s commitment to a transparent and credible primary election process within the ADC.
“The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement,” Amaechi stated.
“We insist on a free, fair, and transparent primary.”
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and influential political figure in the South-South, also used the opportunity to call on Rivers indigenes to rally behind the ADC and push for change in 2027.
“Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and country should move to register with the new party and ensure that we remove the current government and stop the hunger that everybody is suffering from,” he said.
Amaechi’s remarks come amid growing discontent with the current administration and intensifying political repositioning ahead of the next general elections.
His open endorsement of the ADC signifies a major shift in Rivers politics and could signal the emergence of a new political force in the South-South region, as opposition leaders seek to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and national levels.
