The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to grassroots education development following the inspection and official reception of 11,000 Smart Green School uniforms for pupils across the council area.
The inspection, which took place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Smart Green School Fashion Hub in Enugu State, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing implementation of the state’s education reform agenda under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The uniforms, produced under the Smart Green School initiative, are designated for distribution to 11,000 pupils across the 11 wards in Awgu Local Government Area, with each ward allocated 1,000 uniforms. The initiative is aimed at promoting inclusive access to quality education while fostering a modern and smart learning environment for young learners.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Okolo described the project as a transformative intervention that goes beyond education, highlighting its impact on economic empowerment and job creation. He noted that the Fashion Hub has emerged as a vital platform for engaging local talent, particularly young people and skilled artisans.
“I am truly impressed by the scale of operations here,” the chairman stated. “The large workforce is a clear testament to the administration’s commitment to job creation and economic growth.”
He commended Governor Mbah for what he termed a visionary approach to governance, emphasizing that the integration of education with enterprise development represents a sustainable model for long-term progress.
The chairman also reaffirmed the council’s proactive role in complementing the initiative, noting that access roads to Smart Green Schools across Awgu are currently being developed to enhance accessibility and learning conditions for pupils.
Describing the programme as impactful at the grassroots level, Hon. Okolo assured residents of a transparent and equitable distribution process, ensuring that all beneficiaries across the wards receive their uniforms without bias.
The visit featured a guided tour of the production facility, where the chairman interacted with workers and observed firsthand the uniform production process. He reiterated Awgu LGA’s continued support for policies and programmes that drive sustainable development and human capital advancement.
The Smart Green School initiative stands as a flagship programme of the Enugu State Government, strategically designed to integrate innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth within the education sector, while simultaneously stimulating local economies.
