The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that President Bola Tinubu is fulfilling his promises to develop Abuja and its satellite towns.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday during the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of Karu road, from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, as well as other township roads in Karu.
According to him, the current administration has demonstrated commitment to improving infrastructure in the FCT, insisting that residents have the right to hold leaders accountable for their electoral promises.
“You have to hold us accountable. When you have fulfilled part of your covenant by voting for people, ask them: you told us when we vote for you, this is what you are going to do, have you done it?” Wike stated.
The minister recalled that Tinubu pledged to develop not only the capital city but also its satellite areas, which have long been associated with poor infrastructure.
“I don’t know why they should include Karu as a satellite town. Karu is a city. The only problem associated with satellite towns is bad roads, and now the roads will come up,” he added.
Wike also highlighted ongoing projects in the area, including the provision of water to Karu, Orozo, and Karishi, handled by CGC, and the completed rehabilitation of the Nyanya–Karishi expressway.
Turning to politics, the FCT Minister urged residents of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to support the incumbent Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, in the forthcoming council election.
He described Maikalangu as a bridge between the community and the federal government, noting that his persistent advocacy influenced the approval of the Karu road project.
“That is why I will always want you to support those who can go to the government and say, ‘look, my area is bad,’ and the government will listen to them,” Wike said.
He further noted that Maikalangu has been a strong supporter of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has encouraged the FCT administration to prioritize Karu’s development.
“If I were you, continue to support him because it means he has the people of Karu at heart. In politics, if you fall for me, I fall for you; if you do for me, I do for you; if you love me, I love you,” Wike added.
