We are under pressure – Musa

The Super Eagles are under serious pressure to qualify for the African World Cup play-offs but are not scared of the daunting task according to the captain of the team, Ahmed Musa, UGAMATV reports.

The three-time African Champions, who lead Group C with 12 points, face Cape Verde on Tuesday (today) in a crucial game at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

Gernot Rohr’s side need at least a point to secure qualification to the knockout round of the African qualifying series which is billed to hold in March 2022.

Ghana, DR Congo, Egypt, Mali, Morocco and Senegal are already through to the third and final qualifying round.

Musa who ended his three-year goal drought from the penalty spot as the Eagles beat Liberia 2-0 in Morocco last Saturday said the Eagles will go out for a win against the Sharks in Lagos.

“No one is thinking of a draw. It is a must-win match, as far as we are concerned. The mindset is to win and reach the final round of the World Cup series without any story,” Musa told UGAMATV

“We have a lot of players who have never been at the World Cup and everyone wants to be there.

“We want to score some important goals in the first half, and then in the second, we can finish the game and then we have qualified for the next round.

“If you’re at home you’re under pressure because they come with their all. We are under pressure but we are not scared. We know the quality we have so we just have to concentrate for 90 minutes and we know we are going to qualify.”

Musa also played down the team’s inability to score from open play in their last game against the Lone Star.

“A lot of our strikers have been scoring goals in Europe,” Musa continued.

“It doesn’t matter if we score our goals from the penalty spot. The important thing is the three points. No matter how the goal is scored, all we need is three points.

“To get more confidence in the game and get the crowd behind us is to get an early goal and we are doing all our best to qualify.”
