Two Killed, Many Injured as Bandits Invade Another Plateau State Community

Suspected armed bandits believed to be Fulani attackers invaded Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night, leaving two residents dead and several others injured.

Residents who spoke to journalists on Wednesday said the attackers entered the village around 10:30 p.m., shortly after many people had gone to bed. They reportedly fired gunshots continuously for more than 30 minutes before escaping into nearby bushes and rocky areas before security personnel could arrive.

One of the residents, Dusu Bulus, said the assault was unexpected and appeared unprovoked, noting that there had been no earlier incident that might have triggered a reprisal attack.

The invasion was also confirmed by Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM). According to him, the sudden attack caused panic within the community.

He explained that the gunmen stormed Rim village at about 10 p.m., opened fire, and by the time of reporting, two people had been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Tengwong described the incident as another troubling example of the ongoing insecurity affecting communities in Riyom and other parts of the state. He called on security agencies to strengthen patrols in the area and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Attempts to get comments from the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State, Alfred Alabo, as well as officials of Operation Enduring Peace, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to them had not been answered at the time of filing the report.
