Nigerian soldiers have killed two suspected foreign bandits, locally known as Lakurawa, during a clearance operation in Mano community, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to residents, the confrontation occurred at Mano market, a spot where the armed men frequently visited to purchase food and supplies.
Eyewitnesses told New Telegraph that the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, leaving two of them dead. The operation was led by Major Chukuma, who coordinates security operations across Tangaza, Gudu, Binji, and Silame LGAs.
Three rifles and five motorcycles were recovered from the scene, while other fighters reportedly fled under heavy gunfire and were pursued into their hideouts in the Tangaza forest.
Border communities in Tangaza, Gudu, and Argungu areas of Sokoto and Kebbi states have long suffered repeated raids by the Lakurawa due to their proximity to Niger Republic.
