Tragedy Strikes Aba as Billboard Crushes Tricycles, Leaving Many Injured and Feared Dead

A tall and large billboard collapsed on some tricycles carrying passengers in Aba, Abia State, on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to many passengers, with some feared dead.
The incident happened in the afternoon at the Salad Market junction near the GIA Event Centre during a rainfall with strong winds.
A resident who witnessed the incident said that some tricycles carrying passengers were trapped under the heavy billboard, resulting in the death of some of the passengers on the spot, while those alive groaned and called for help.
No official confirmation has been made by concerned authorities about the incident or the actual number of casualties at the time of filing this report. Still, engineers and other sympathizing residents of Aba who arrived at the scene pulled out the victims from under the billboard.
UGAMATV learned that the injured passengers had been rushed to the hospital for treatment, while those who died were taken to the mortuary.
