President Bola Tinubu has submitted a N1.7 trillion Appropriation Bill for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the Senate for approval, outlining a fiscal roadmap focused on infrastructure, job creation, and social development.
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read on the floor of the Senate during Wednesday’s plenary.
Citing Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which grants the National Assembly legislative authority over the FCT, President Tinubu stated that the proposed 2025 budget prioritizes critical sectors, including healthcare, education, youth empowerment, job creation, social welfare, and agricultural productivity.
According to the President, the spending plan aims to lift citizens out of poverty by completing essential infrastructure and service delivery projects. He noted that 85 percent of the capital allocation is dedicated to ongoing projects, while 15 percent is reserved for new initiatives.
“This is to sustain ongoing efforts at providing basic infrastructure and social amenities in the FCT,” Tinubu emphasized.
The President expressed optimism that the Senate would give the proposal prompt and favorable consideration to facilitate the timely execution of developmental programs within the capital territory.
