President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in Bayelsa State after polling a total of 227,192 votes across the state’s 105 wards and eight local government areas.
Tinubu’s only challenger, Stanley Osifo, secured just five votes, all reportedly recorded in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The results were announced at the Banquet Hall by Bayelsa State Governor and the party’s returning officer, Douye Diri, who commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Diri described the primary as orderly, transparent, and conducted in line with party guidelines across all wards and local government areas in the state.
“I hereby certify that the results announced represent the true, correct and accurate collation of votes from all local government areas in Bayelsa State. The process was conducted peacefully and in accordance with party guidelines,” he stated.
The governor praised APC members for their discipline and commitment throughout the exercise, noting that there were no major disputes during the process.
Observers also described the primary as well-organized, with delegates and party officials applauding the smooth collation of results.
Reacting to the exercise, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, described the presidential primary in Ekeremor Local Government Area as peaceful, transparent, and successful.
Speaking after monitoring the process in Ward 8, Ekeremor, Lokpobiri commended party members for their orderly conduct and dedication to the exercise.
According to him, the presidential primary forms part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, following earlier primaries for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly positions.
“Today’s exercise is specifically for the nomination of the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 election,” he said.
Lokpobiri noted that although he could not vote as a political appointee, he attended the exercise as an observer and expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct recorded across all 12 wards in Ekeremor Local Government Area.
