The Nigerian government partnered with America on airstrikes in Sokoto – Media personality calls out President Tinubu’s media aide Bayo Onanuga after past criticism of Peter Obi

Media personality, Rufai Oseni, has called out a perceived contradiction in the federal government’s security posture, following reports of cooperation between Nigeria and the United States on airstrikes in Sokoto State.

Oseni raised the issue on X, pointing to recent security collaboration with the United States months after a statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga criticising opposition figure Peter Obi over comments linked to U.S. involvement in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.

Sharing a screenshot of Onanuga’s earlier post, Rufai wrote: “…but Nigerian government just partnered with America on Airstrikes in Sokoto.”

The post referenced a November comment by Onanuga in which he said: “We shall never forget and forgive Peter Obi for supporting a foreign invasion of Nigeria,” reacting to remarks attributed to Obi suggesting he would welcome help from former U.S. president Donald Trump in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Rufai’s comment comes amid reports that Nigerian authorities worked with U.S. counterparts on air operations targeting armed groups in parts of Sokoto State, a development that has reignited debate online over consistency in official messaging.
