Super Eagles Coach Chelle has done exceedingly well within the one year he has been with us— NFF President

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will go on to achieve greater success under head coach Éric Chelle following their impressive outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gusau said the national team has turned a corner after the disappointment of missing consecutive FIFA World Cups, pointing to their strong performances in Morocco where they finished third and won bronze medals.

He expressed satisfaction with the team’s display at the tournament, noting that while the ultimate goal was not achieved, the overall performance was encouraging.

“Actually, when we landed in Morocco towards the end of last year, our objective was to win the AFCON trophy and be the champions of Africa. Today, we finished in third place and won the bronze medals instead,” Gusau said.

“We missed our target, but my joy is in the way our team played. They played with zest and patriotic fervour, and showed resilience and character.”

The NFF president also acknowledged the support received from the Federal Government, describing it as crucial to the team’s campaign.

“Big kudos to the huge support and motivation that we continue to receive from the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission. Without the support of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the government as a whole, we would not have been able to do anything,” he said.

Gusau reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to backing the Super Eagles and the technical crew, praising Chelle’s impact since taking charge.

“The NFF is proud of the team’s campaign and will continue to do its best to encourage, support and motivate the team as we go forward,” he said.

“As the head of a hard-working technical crew, Mr Chelle has done exceedingly well within the one year he has been with us. He has shown enormous capacity and we will continue to work with him.”

He added that with sustained support and stability, the Super Eagles are well positioned to achieve greater milestones in the years ahead.
