A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the marginalization of Vice President Kashim Shettima by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), criticized the limited role allegedly assigned to Shettima, reducing him to attending weddings and burial ceremonies on behalf of the government.
“This is sad, unfortunate, and unacceptable,” Eze declared in a statement made available to reporters. “As much as I am not a supporter of Vice President Kashim Shettima, I must speak out as a concerned Nigerian. The way he is being sidelined and relegated to merely representing the government at social functions is a gross disservice to his office and stature as a respected politician.”

He also questioned President Tinubu’s refusal to hand over power to the Vice President during his numerous trips abroad, describing the move as unconstitutional and politically motivated.
“For nearly two years now, despite several international travels by the President, not once has he deemed it necessary to officially transfer authority to the Vice President. This is not only condemnable but also a clear violation of the spirit and provisions of the Nigerian Constitution,” Eze asserted.
He emphasized that the office of the Vice President is a constitutionally established, exalted position that should not be diminished for political convenience or expediency.
