Sensors needed to detect explosives on rail tracks, says Shehu Sani

A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, on Friday, said sensors are needed to detect explosives planted along rail tracks.

Sani said this on Twitter following an attack by suspected bandits on an Abuja-Kaduna train on Wednesday

The lawmaker, who was on board during the attack, said, “Yesterday (Wednesday) terrorists attacked the Kaduna-Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank. This (Thursday) morning, I was onboard when our train ran over another explosive damaging rail.”

The attack was on Thursday confirmed by the Abuja/Kaduna Train Service Station Manager, Paschal Nnorli

“Yes, there was an attack, but right now I cannot confirm if it was an explosive or bomb attack as people are saying,” he said.

Nnorli added, “Investigations are ongoing and I’ll give you updates as they come in. Our engineers have been mobilised to the area. And right now we have suspended services.”

The suspension of service on the Abuja-Kaduna route, as announced by the Nigeria Railway Corporation, was commended by Sani.

He tweeted, “The suspension of the railway services by the NRC is the safest thing to do for now. The next is to instal the sensors to detect any explosives planted along the rail tracks. Flying to Kaduna is the next option while hoping that the road from the airport to the city will be secured.”
