The people of Okposi-Ukwu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday staged a peaceful protest over the death of Master Ebuka Chukwu, a Senior Secondary School (SSS 2) student of Federal Government College (FGC), Okposi.
Protesters carried placards with bold inscriptions such as “Who killed Ebuka?”, “Evil people are running FGC Okposi,” and “IGP, stop the killing and bring justice,” while calling for urgent answers and government intervention.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Collins Agwu expressed grief and outrage, demanding an immediate autopsy to determine the true cause of the student’s death.
Agwu alleged that Ebuka was killed before his body was thrown into a river to conceal the crime. He also questioned why a staff member of the college, Mr. Danjuma, allegedly sent Ebuka and other students to confront suspected hoodlums.
“We want justice to prevail and those behind Ebuka’s death to be unmasked. The school management is playing politics with this incident,” Agwu declared.
Another native, Chiadikaobi Obasi, decried what he described as the maltreatment of indigenous students and staff by the school authorities, warning that the usually peaceful Okposi-Ukwu community should not be “pushed to the wall.”
Responding to the protesters, the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Ojima O. Emmanuel, expressed shock at the tragic development and assured that the college would cooperate fully with investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding Ebuka’s demise.
The Ebonyi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the case is under active investigation and revealed that three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to sources, the tragedy occurred on July 27, 2025, when Mr. Danjuma allegedly instructed students, including Ebuka, to confront hoodlums, a confrontation that reportedly led to the young student’s death.
