Progressive Governors Forum Backs Ganduje’s Resignation, Reaffirms Support for Tinubu’s Agenda

The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has described the resignation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as a reflection of the party’s continuous internal evolution and commitment to institutional progress.

This position was contained in a communique issued at the end of the Forum’s regional meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, and read by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.

The governors reaffirmed their strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing satisfaction with improved coordination between federal and state governments.

The PGF commended the administration’s macroeconomic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate unification, and debt rationalization, describing them as necessary measures for long-term economic stabilization.

While acknowledging positive signs of economic recovery, the Forum emphasized the need for inclusive growth and social equity. It pledged to expand investments in food security, job creation, poverty eradication, MSMEs, and social protection systems.

“The Forum reaffirmed the critical role of sub-national governments as engines for economic renewal, committing to deepen economic decentralization in line with Section 13 of the 1999 Constitution,” the communique read.

The governors also welcomed increased fiscal transfers to states and a rise in both domestic and foreign direct investments, particularly in APC-led states. They highlighted strides in digital governance, procurement reforms, and regulatory improvements aimed at enhancing infrastructure and competitiveness across the country.

On national security, the PGF praised ongoing efforts by security agencies, reaffirming support for inter-agency collaboration, community policing, and grassroots intelligence. They also called for greater investment in surveillance technology and the welfare of security personnel.

Reiterating confidence in the APC, the Forum described it as “the most institutionally-coherent political platform in Nigeria,” with a track record of reforms, national unity, and electoral success.

“The PGF Governors resolved to remain faithful to APC values, leveraging technology, innovation, and inter-governmental collaboration to drive Nigeria’s transformation from the bottom up,” it stated.

The Forum concluded by encouraging Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support President Tinubu’s administration and commended the defection of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, welcoming him into the APC fold.

“Governor Eno’s decision, along with that of his supporters, reflects a growing national consensus on the transformative policies of the Tinubu administration,” the communique added.
