A former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared that the people of Nigeria’s North West will ultimately judge the performance of political leaders in the 2027 general elections, particularly on issues of violence, poverty, and insecurity.

Baba-Ahmed made this known in a post on his verified X handle while reacting to the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term by the North West All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders over the weekend in Kaduna.

“The people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death, and poverty have been forgotten. It’s almost as if they think people don’t matter,” Baba-Ahmed stated.

At the political gathering, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas made a motion endorsing Tinubu for a second term in 2027. The motion was seconded by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who also passed a vote of confidence in the president’s leadership.

The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who was also in attendance, announced that governors in the North West zone would be granted automatic tickets to contest for a second term during the 2027 elections.

Ganduje maintained that President Tinubu remained committed to the development of the North West and the country at large.

Responding critically to the development, Baba-Ahmed said in a post:

“APC Govs in NW recently endorsed PBAT, endorsed themselves and every elected office holder, and defectors from the region.

“They forgot the people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death, and poverty. It’s almost as if they think people don’t matter,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed’s remarks come shortly after he resigns from President Tinubu’s administration, signaling growing disenchantment among some Northern stakeholders within the ruling party.
