PDP suspends National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and three others for one month

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four senior national officers over alleged anti-party activities, according to an official statement released after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Saturday, November 1.

Those affected include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamal Deen Ajibade (SAN); and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha.

The party announced that the suspensions would last one month, pending further investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee. During this period, all four officials are barred from performing their official duties.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the decision followed a review of the party’s recent activities and conduct of some top officials.

“The NWC has reviewed the party’s activities, especially in the recent past, and some decisions were taken. You will recall that on August 8, 2025, the party issued a reprimand to members over anti-party activities,” Ologunagba said. “From then till now, the party reviewed the activities of some members working against the party and the NWC has reached the following decisions today.”

He noted that the suspended members were found to have breached several sections of the PDP Constitution, which prohibits conduct likely to bring the party into “disrepute, hatred, or contempt.”

“Anybody who breaches any part of the constitution or manifesto, or says or does anything that brings the party to disrepute, disobeys lawful directives, or engages in conduct likely to cause disaffection among members, is liable to disciplinary action,” he stated.

Ologunagba further announced that the NWC had approved interim replacements for the suspended officials.

“In the case of the National Secretary, pursuant to Section 36(2) of the constitution as amended in 2017, the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arch Setonji Koshedo, shall act as National Secretary,” he said. “For the offices of the Legal Adviser and Deputy Legal Adviser, the Director of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the department during the period of suspension.”

The National Legal Adviser and Deputy Legal Adviser have both been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee, while the National Organising Secretary and National Secretary will also face internal inquiries in accordance with the PDP Constitution.
