At least one person has lost their life and 11 others sustained injuries after Iranian missiles and drones struck areas around major airports in the United Arab Emirates late Saturday, officials have confirmed.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, Abu Dhabi Airports reported that four individuals were injured following an incident at Dubai International Airport (DXB). Emergency response teams were dispatched immediately, and flight operations were temporarily suspended as a safety precaution.
Authorities also disclosed that air defence systems intercepted a drone targeting Zayed International Airport. While the drone was successfully neutralised, falling debris from the interception resulted in the death of an Asian national and left seven others injured.
Officials urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, stressing that updates would be communicated through official channels.
According to authorities, the UAE’s air defence units intercepted dozens of missiles and drones launched by Iran, with the majority destroyed before impact. However, fragments from the intercepted projectiles reportedly landed in various areas, including near airport facilities and residential neighborhoods, causing limited structural damage and casualties.
As a precaution, the UAE temporarily shut its airspace and suspended operations at key airports, including DXB and Zayed International Airport. The disruption left thousands of passengers stranded and led to widespread flight cancellations and delays.
The attacks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as Iranian forces reportedly retaliated following extensive strikes on Iranian territory by the United States and Israel earlier in the conflict, according to international media reports.
