Obidient Movement Denies Internal Crisis, Reaffirms Loyalty to Peter Obi’s Vision

The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports alleging internal divisions within its ranks, insisting that the movement remains united and committed to the vision of a better Nigeria championed by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Ibrahim Umar, described reports of a crisis within the movement as false, deliberate and intended to distract supporters from its core mission.

According to Umar, what some observers have interpreted as disunity is merely the natural evolution of a broad-based, citizen-driven movement comprising different groups united by common values and aspirations.

“We have become aware of ongoing media reports suggesting that the Obidient Movement is experiencing internal divisions. We categorically reject such claims,” he stated.

He explained that the movement was never designed as a conventional political organisation with a rigid leadership structure but as a people-powered coalition driven by shared principles of accountability, good governance, economic progress and social justice.

Umar noted that while various support groups and civic organisations affiliated with the movement may adopt different approaches in advancing their objectives, they remain united by a common goal of transforming Nigeria.

“The Obidient Movement is founded on values embodied by Peter Obi. Different groups may pursue different strategies, but their collective mission remains the same — the emergence of a New Nigeria built on transparency, fairness and competent leadership,” he said.

The spokesman further argued that the decentralised nature of the movement remains one of its greatest strengths, making it difficult for any individual or interest group to dominate or compromise its ideals.

He maintained that the movement belongs to ordinary Nigerians and not to any select political class, stressing that its commitment to ending transactional politics and promoting responsible governance remains unwavering.

Umar urged supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora to ignore what he described as coordinated attempts to create a false impression of instability within the movement.

“The Obidient Movement is united, focused and resolute in its pursuit of socio-economic transformation for Nigeria. There is no division regarding our fundamental objectives,” he said.

The statement comes amid heightened political activities and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political actors and interest groups continue to position themselves for future contests.
