NYSC Assures Support for Family as Former Director-General Is Buried

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has pledged continued support for the family of its 7th Director-General, Brigadier General Soyemi Ayodele Sofoluwe (retd.), who passed away in December 2025.

The assurance was given by the current Director-General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, during the wake-keep service held in honour of the late former NYSC boss at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Brigadier General Nafiu described the late Sofoluwe as an exemplary leader whose life was marked by kindness, compassion, humility and a warm sense of humour. He noted that numerous tributes and testimonies attested to the deceased’s enduring impact on colleagues, friends and the NYSC family.

The funeral ceremony attracted dignitaries from various walks of life, including former Directors-General of the NYSC, Brigadier Generals Walter Oki (retd.) and Y.D. Ahmed.

Brigadier General Sofoluwe served as Director-General of the NYSC from January 1994 to July 1996. He is survived by his wife, Colonel Kehinde Sofoluwe (retd.), his children and grandchildren.

The late General was laid to rest at the Apena Cemetery, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
