A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) linked to Nyesom Wike has denied claims that it plans to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
The position was clarified by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, during an interview on Morning Brief, a programme aired on Channels Television on Monday.
According to Mohammed, the PDP intends to present its own presidential candidate in the upcoming election rather than backing the current president.
He appealed to Nigerians to allow the party some time as it prepares for its internal processes, including the conduct of primaries that will determine its candidate.
Mohammed also dismissed speculation that the party faction is working with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such claims as rumours and propaganda.
He added that the allegations are meant to damage the image of the PDP as well as that of Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. According to him, the truth about the situation will become clearer with time.
