The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates from across Nigeria and five foreign countries participating in the examination.
According to a statement issued by NECO’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Alhaji Azeez Sani, candidates from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and five foreign countries sat for the examination in 12 subjects.
The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and ended on April 30, 2026.
The results were approved for release following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and representative of the Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the successful release of the results.
The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country as well as members of NECO management.
Azeez Sani further disclosed that the Award Committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE re-sit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
He explained that the re-sit examination is designed to give affected candidates the opportunity to remedy deficiencies in the two core subjects and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without having to repeat an entire academic year.
