Naija Girls in Tech Opens Applications for 2026 Student Ambassador Programme

Naija Girls in Tech (NGiT), a social impact initiative focused on bridging the gender gap in technology across Nigeria and Africa, has opened applications for its 2026 Global Student Ambassador Programme.

The initiative aims to recruit 150 female student ambassadors from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Successful candidates will champion digital literacy campaigns, community development projects and technology advocacy initiatives within their campuses and local communities.

Created to foster inclusion, leadership and innovation among young women, the programme seeks to build a nationwide network of female changemakers driving technology adoption and empowerment at the grassroots level.

Speaking on the initiative, Head of Partnership and Growth at Naija Girls in Tech, Uswat Abdullateef, said the programme is designed to identify and support young women capable of creating meaningful impact in their communities.

“We have seen the difference one determined young woman can make when she decides her campus will not be left behind in the digital economy. Our Ambassador Programme is designed to identify 150 of those change-makers and equip them with the resources, mentorship and platform needed to drive lasting impact,” she said.

The NGiT Student Ambassador Programme is a structured nine-month fellowship that offers leadership development, mentorship, visibility and practical opportunities within Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem. The programme is free and open to undergraduate students and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members interested in technology, leadership and community development.

Participants who successfully complete the fellowship will receive an official NGiT Ambassador Certificate, a LinkedIn recommendation, a published profile on the NGiT platform, access to a private network of women in technology, priority consideration for internships, volunteer opportunities and job placements, as well as recommendation letters and performance-based rewards.

NGiT said no prior technology experience is required, as the programme is targeted at ambitious young women passionate about technology, leadership, advocacy and community impact.

Applications are open to undergraduate students from 100 level to final year in accredited Nigerian tertiary institutions and NYSC members serving in education, technology or community development-related roles. The organisation is also encouraging applications from candidates in underserved communities, institutions outside major cities, polytechnics and colleges of education to ensure broad representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Naija Girls in Tech, Olufunmilayo Ogunwo-Adesanya, said the initiative is aimed at inspiring more young women to pursue careers in technology and become active contributors to the sector.

“Every girl in Nigeria deserves to see women building the technology shaping the future. Our ambassadors are not waiting for that future to happen; they are actively creating it, one campus at a time,” she said.

Applications for the programme will close on June 20, with early applicants receiving priority review. The 150 ambassadors will be selected from across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.

To be eligible, applicants must be undergraduate students or NYSC members, demonstrate a passion for technology and female empowerment, possess strong communication and networking skills, be willing to dedicate between five and eight hours weekly to programme activities, have access to a smartphone and reliable internet connection, and maintain an active presence on at least one social media platform.
