Lightning Strike Kills 32 Cows During Heavy Rainstorm in Ogun State

A tragic rainstorm on Saturday, June 21, claimed the lives of 32 cows in the Osara, Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State.

 

The incident occurred around 12 p.m. during a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning. The cows, owned by both Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba residents of the community, were reportedly struck by lightning.

 

The Baale of Osara, Chief Wasiu Afolabi, disclosed that Fulani herders responsible for the animals alerted him around 2 p.m. The incident was promptly reported to the Aregbe Police Division and the Chairman of Odeda LGA, Dr. Afolashade Adeyemo.

 

Afolabi noted that a peace meeting was scheduled with the Fulani community to prevent any possible tensions and ensure continued harmony in the area.

 

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, said the command received the report around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers from the Aregbe Division visited the scene and confirmed that 32 cows were killed by the lightning strike during the storm.
