Liberia vs Nigeria: Super Eagles players confident of victory against Lone Star

AHEAD of Super Eagles’ Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liberia on Saturday (today), the trio Kelechi Iheanacho, Maduka Okoye and Chidozie Awaziem said they were confident that the team would return with the maximum three points.

Nigeria face the Lone Star at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier, Morocco.

Leicester City forward, Iheanacho, said he was delighted with the return of Odion Ighalo, ahead of today’s clash.

“Personally I am ready for the Liberia clash and I have been training hard in training and focus. I am fit and collectively as a team, I think we are ready as well,” Iheanacho said in an interview with the Eagles media team.

“We are excited about the return of Odion Ighalo. He is a top man and a legend and he has done so much for the team and the nation and we are happy to have him back. He is like a big brother to every one of us and we hope he will help us to achieve our goals.”

Okoye, who recently joined Watford, said he was more concerned with the three points than keeping a clean sheet.

“Training has been good and we are getting ready for the match on Saturday’s (today). We have a good vibe here and everybody is fit, we have injured players back and I can’t wait for the game.”

“I think from the last match, we could learn that it is not easy playing against opponents in Africa and so we have to be very focused and 100 per cent at our best and I am sure we will get the three points on Saturday.

“Anytime I wear the jersey I try to do my best for the country, for my family and for the whole land. My focus is on this game and the AFCON. For me, three points comes first before I start thinking of a clean sheet.”

Defender Awaziem added that they were motivated ahead o the encounter.

“I think everyone is motivated and ready for the game. The squad is completed and we are focused on the game on Saturday and we hope to come out with a positive result. We are preparing so hard to make sure we get the three points and qualify for the World Cup.

“As a defender, you always want to get a clean sheet and I hope we work together as a team and achieve that.”
