The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled all members who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement was made by Segun Edwards, spokesperson of the PDP Elders Caucus and Chairman of the party in one of the state’s 20 local government areas. Edwards revealed that the expulsion followed a stakeholders’ meeting involving party elders and local government chairmen, convened to discuss the outcomes of the recent PDP National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
According to Edwards, the expelled members were those who openly aligned themselves with the ADC, a move deemed a betrayal of PDP principles.
“The enlarged stakeholders’ meeting unanimously agreed to expel members who declared allegiance to the ADC while still holding on to PDP membership,” he said.
In addition to the expulsion, the meeting directed local government chairmen to begin preparations for the party’s upcoming congresses, which will span from the local to the national level between September and November 2025.
Party elders and chairmen expressed strong disapproval of the defection, stating that the affected members had undermined party unity and loyalty by supporting a rival coalition.
