Kansas Sheriff’s deputy sh0t and k!lled while responding to domestic violence call

A Kansas sheriff’s deputy was k!lled over the weekend when he was shot while responding to a domestic violence call.

 

 

 

Wyandotte County Deputy, Elijah Ming, 34, and an officer from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded to a call for civil standby at around 3:30 p.m. local time on July 26, the county sheriff’s office said in a statement.

 

 

 

 

As authorities approached the residence, the sheriff’s office said a man opened fire and struck Ming.

 

 

 

 

Multiple other sheriff’s deputies and police officers then responded to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, according to the county sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The suspect, who was later identified as 38-year-old Shawn Harris, was injured during the exchange of gunfire and barricaded himself inside the residence.

 

 

 

Ming was transported to an area hospital where he later d!ed from his injuries, the county sheriff’s office said. The suspect was also taken to a hospital after he exited the home and surrendered to police.

 

 

 

“Deputy Elijah Ming was killed from the injuries he received from the gunfire,” Wyandotte County Sheriff Daniel Soptic said at a news conference on July 26. “Deputy Ming worked for the sheriff’s office for almost nine years, and was a loved member of this agency. Deputy Ming gave his life serving Wyandotte County and all of its residents.”

 

 

 

 

The suspect was released from the hospital at about 11:30 a.m. on July 27 and was arrested for capital murder of a law enforcement officer, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

 

 

 

He is currently being held without bond in the Johnson County Jail, online inmate records show. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said formal charges are pending, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
