Kano Govt Sacks State Counsel for Alleged Forgery and Misconduct

The Kano State Ministry of Justice has dismissed a state counsel, Mustapha Nura Muhammad, over allegations bordering on forgery, abuse of office and gross professional misconduct.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, disclosed this in a statement, saying the dismissal followed the approval of the Kano State Civil Service Commission after what he described as due process and fair hearing.

According to the statement, the government said the decision was taken in line with efforts to protect the integrity of the justice system and uphold ethical standards within the public service.

The integrity of the justice system remains paramount. Legal practitioners and public officers are expected to maintain the highest ethical and professional standards in the discharge of their duties,” the statement said.

The Attorney General warned that any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the justice system would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He added that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to strengthening accountability, discipline, transparency and professionalism within the justice sector.

Maude also revealed that the state government may take further lawful actions, including referring the matter to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and pursuing possible criminal prosecution where necessary.

“We will continue to take all necessary lawful steps, including referral to the LPDC and possible criminal prosecution where appropriate, to ensure that justice is upheld and public confidence is maintained,” he stated.
