JOSEHU meets Ngige Wednesday, shelves strike

THE leadership of the Joint Health Sector Union will on Wednesday be meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, as part of efforts to forestall imminent industrial action, UGAMATV  has learnt.

It was also learnt that the union would be shelving its plans to go on strike pending the outcome of its meeting with the minister.

The spokesperson for the union, Olumide Akintayo, disclosed this in an interview on Monday.

UGAMATV had reported that the union, an umbrella body of health workers in the country except medical doctors, had issued a 15-day notice to the Federal Government over the failure of the latter to meet its demands.

The ultimatum which the union issued elapsed on Monday.

Akintayo told our correspondent, “We have shelved the plan to go on strike pending the outcome of our meeting with the Minister of Labour. We will be meeting with him on Wednesday, which is two days from now. Our union does not like going on strike because we are compassionate.
