Ikenne violence: Remo banished to Akure, fined N1.3m

The Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has banished Remo Stars to Akure for one home game after the violence in their Nigeria National League match against Bendel Insurance on June 6.

The committee, after its sitting on Wednesday, also fined Remo N1.3m, saying Insurance appeal against the ruling of the disciplinary committee “partially succeeded.”

The statement signed by the committee secretary, Okey Obi, said Insurance failed to provide receipts of medical bills to justify the claim of N6m as medical bills for the treatment of their officials and players,

“Remo Stars FC is hereby fined the sum of N200,000 for damage caused to the camera and phones belonging to the officials of the appellant, Bendel Insurance FC.

“The committee hereby awards the sum of N500,000 as cost against the respondent, Remo Stars FC, to be paid to the appellant, Bendel Insurance FC, as nominal damage for the injuries caused to their officials and players and their medical bill.

“The sum of N100,000 is hereby awarded as fine against the respondent, Remo Stars FC, to be paid to the appellant, Bendel Insurance FC, as damages caused to their bus.

“Remo Stars FC is hereby fined the sum of N500,000 as fine for encroachment by their supporters, who were present at the stadium during the match, in breach of COVID-19 protocols,” the Appeals Committee said.

The committee also barred Insurance from commenting on the matter “either on social media or mainstream media.”

UGAMATV had reported that Insurance rejected the decision of the NFF Disciplinary Committee, which only fined Remo N900,000, and ordered them to write an undertaking.

Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Deputy Governor, Ebomhiana Musa, told our correspondent that the state-owned Bendel Insurance would not return to the NNL until Remo were properly punished.

When our correspondent contacted Musa for reaction on the latest development on Thursday, he said the club were still studying the ruling and would make their position known.

“We just got the ruling and will only make our position known after we have studied it,” Musa said
