IGP Disu Directs Police Commands to Strengthen Suspects’ Data Capture for Smarter Crime Fighting

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritise the accurate collection and management of suspects’ information as part of efforts to deepen intelligence-led policing and modernise criminal investigations within the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP gave the directive while declaring open the One-Day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The workshop focused on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, an initiative designed to improve crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive crime prevention.

Addressing participants, Disu noted that effective policing in the modern era depends largely on the availability of accurate, timely, and actionable data. He stressed that law enforcement agencies can no longer rely solely on traditional investigative approaches to tackle evolving security challenges.

According to him, the Crime and Incident Database Centre represents a critical national policing asset capable of improving investigative outcomes, identifying criminal patterns, tracking repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions, and supporting informed operational and strategic decisions.

The IGP reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation, and intelligence-driven strategies to transform policing in Nigeria. He also called for strict adherence to established procedures for capturing suspects’ information across all police commands and formations nationwide.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the IGP urged participants to actively engage in discussions and develop practical recommendations that would enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s crime management framework.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to deploying technology and intelligence-led policing tools to improve service delivery, enhance public safety, and build a more professional, accountable, and citizen-focused institution.
