A 40-year-old man from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping his 16-year-old daughter in a case that has sent shockwaves through the community. The horrific crime took place in Pumula South, with the victim’s 15-year-old uncle present during the assault.
Western Commonage regional magistrate Sibongile Marondedze handed down the stern sentence, denouncing the man as a “societal threat” who betrayed the sacred trust between parent and child. “The courts exist to protect the most vulnerable, especially from predators within their own homes,” Magistrate Marondedze stated.
Prosecutor Samantha Gubede detailed the chilling events of April 27, revealing that the father lured his daughter under the guise of a private conversation after she had served the family’s evening meal. He allegedly told her that he should be the one to take her virginity rather than an outsider, a grotesque justification for his intended crime.
Court documents showed that the man first forced his daughter to sleep on his bedroom floor before demanding she join him on the bed. When she resisted, he tore her clothes and violently assaulted her as her teenage uncle awoke to her screams. The following morning, the victim reported the ordeal to her grandfather, who immediately alerted authorities. Medical evidence later confirmed the assault, securing the conviction.
