GoFundMe for Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good shot by ICE surpasses $550K in 24 hours

GoFundMe campaign launched for the family of Renee Nicole Good, the woman shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, has raised more than $550,000 within 24 hours of her death.

The fundraiser, created to support Good’s wife and young son, described the 37-year-old as “pure sunshine, pure love” and initially set a goal of $50,000 as relatives “grapple with the devastating loss of their wife and mother.”

Good was shot after ICE agents approached her SUV in traffic on a residential street and ordered her to exit the vehicle. According to federal officials under the Trump administration, the officer fired in self-defense. Minnesota officials and witnesses who have reviewed multiple videos of the incident dispute that account. Good reversed her Honda Pilot before moving forward again, prompting the agent to fire several rounds into the vehicle at close range. She was struck in the head and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her identity was confirmed to local media by her mother.

The FBI has opened an investigation into the shooting, though state investigators have reportedly been denied access to evidence. The incident sparked immediate outrage and drew thousands of people to a community vigil held at the scene on Wednesday night.

The killing has quickly escalated into a political controversy. While United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem defended the ICE agent’s actions as self-defense, the mayor of Minneapolis and the Minnesota governor have rejected that characterization and questioned the necessity of the use

of force.
