A 14-year-old girl from Gombe state who was married off to an unknown man in Taraba has been rescued.

The Gombe Women Affairs and Social Development commissioner, Asma’u Iganus, confirmed the rescue mission.

She said the teenager was married off to a wealthy man as his fourth wife.

“This is a gross abuse of her fundamental rights, and we will not tolerate it,” she fumed.

The commissioner added that: “Legal action is already underway to secure her (girl’s) freedom and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
