The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government and the National Assembly are planning to abolish the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).
The ministry described the claims as false, misleading and without any basis, assuring stakeholders that no such proposal exists.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, said the ministry had neither initiated nor supported any move to scrap the board.
She clarified that the Federal Ministry of Education has not presented any bill before the National Assembly seeking the abolition of NBAIS, nor has it endorsed any policy aimed at weakening the board’s statutory responsibilities.
“The claim is false, misleading and entirely unfounded. The ministry has not initiated any bill before the National Assembly seeking the abolition of NBAIS,” Boriowo stated.
She further emphasized that the ministry remains committed to supporting all legally established educational institutions and examination bodies in line with existing laws, national education policies, and the principles of inclusiveness, equity and equal opportunity.
According to her, the misinformation has the potential to create unnecessary anxiety among students, parents, educators, religious organisations and other stakeholders within the education sector.
Boriowo reaffirmed that NBAIS remains a duly recognised examination and certification body operating within Nigeria’s educational framework and continues to enjoy the support of the Federal Government.
She urged members of the public to disregard the reports and avoid spreading unverified information capable of eroding public trust in government institutions.
The ministry also advised stakeholders to rely on official communications from authorised government channels for accurate information regarding education policies, programmes and reforms.
