University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday due to rising tension in Jos following a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The university management also advised students and staff to remain indoors and stay alert as security concerns continue in the area.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, said the decision was taken because of the tension created by the attack, which happened in a community where many students and staff of the institution live.
Madugu explained that the Vice-Chancellor approved the postponement to protect members of the university community.
According to the statement, the decision followed reports of fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Anguwan Rukuba, an area that houses a significant number of UNIJOS staff and students, and the anxiety the incident has caused.
The university also urged members of the school community to be careful with their movements both on and off campus. For safety reasons, students and staff were specifically advised to avoid going out very early in the morning and to report any suspicious security concerns to the University Security Division.
Management added that the institution is collaborating with relevant security agencies and closely monitoring the situation, assuring that further information will be shared when necessary.
