ENUGU COMMUNITIES CELEBRATE, LAUD EKWEREMADU OVER ROAD PROJECT

The natives of Awgunta community of Awgu local government area of Enugu has expressed their unfeigned gratitude to the Former Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Prof. Ike Ekweremadu, over the road construction project that cut across their community.

UGAMATV learnt that the road which connects seven communities, namely; Obeagu, Awgunta, Ezere, Nkwe, Nenwe-nta,  Ugwueme, with a spur at Mgbidi-Mmaku, is a virgin road which was surveyed with the aide of a helicopter, since these communities, prior to the emergence of this road was not accessible interconnectedly.

During an inspectional visit to the road construction site, Engr. Fadi the project manager, on behalf of the IDC contractors had intimated us that the road construction project took a lot of hill cutting and filling, hence making the job quite a tasking one. However, due to funding, rainy season and the national lockdown due to COVID-19, the 7km that makes up the Obeagu to Awgunta axis are completed.

The Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu had appreciated Sen. Ekweremadu for thinking up such insightful initiative as connecting these Anike parts of Awgu, stating that it will bring development and access to this hemisphere.

Again, in the light of this project, the commercial benefits of these Agrarian communities are headed towards enhancement, since the trade routes of several markets in the host communities will be linked by their communities and not only by the Express.

Moreover, having this road refurbished, will enhance the economic activity of the host communities by giving the rural dwellers and other commuters an alternative route to access their farms and local market.

A Certain Kingsley Mba, an Indigene of Awgunta, in that euphoric moment, enumerated the previous difficulties in accessibility in the Anike communities, but with this recent development, Ease has been brought to the indigenes and dwellers of the hilltop areas.

Amid the Celebrations, Sen. Ekweremadu appreciated the efforts of Hon. Okechukwu and Engr. Ivoke, stating that he has the best working team ever. He said that the insight came due to the desire to connect these seemingly outlands.

The horrid sight portrayed by the former state of these roads has been a great fright for teachers and other workers posted to places like Nkwe, to the extent of abscondment and resignation, but with our strong and competent representation, we hope to change the narratives, by bringing peace and safe roads for these persons, he said.

He however admonished other Anike communities, which the road is yet to reach, to exercise a little patience, assuredly, before their tenure expires, they will bring it to a completion.
