Eagles strikers’ form thrills Rohr

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is relishing the attacking riches at his disposal as his team heads in to next month’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers double header against Central African Republic, Ugamatv reports.

Nigeria will face CAR in Lagos on matchday three on October 6 before traveling for the reverse fixture four days later in Doula, Cameroon.

Africa’s football governing body, CAF has not approved any stadia facility in Central African Republic as being good enough to host an international match – this has forced The Wild Beasts to adopt other nations as ‘home ground’.

Eagles’ first choice striker Victor Osimhen has scored six goals in five games for Napoli while Paul Onuachu has also scored 11 times in his opening 12 games for Genk so far this term.

In the French Ligue 1, Samuel Kalu got off the mark with a wonderful strike for Bordeaux last Wednesday while Moses Simon finally got off the scoring mark on Sunday after earlier made five assists for Nantes this season.

Speaking with Ugamatv, Rohr expressed delight at his strikers’ form at this time of the season.

He singled out special praise for Osimhen and Kalu.

“I’m happy with Osimhen’s form and my strikers ahead of our qualifiers against Central Africa Republic,” Rohr said.

“Kalu has also been good, he took his goal well against Montpelier as well as Terem Moffi.”

Meanwhile, Samuel Chukwueze and Emmanuel Dennis have been overlooked for the games against Central Africa Republic over two legs.

While Chukwuze has been out injured, Dennis has not been able to break into the team despite scoring two goals in six Premierl League games for his new side Watford.

Nigeria lead Group C with six points after wins over Liberia and Cape Verde.  Rohr is expected to announce his squad list for the qualifiers this week with the likes of Osimhen, Onuachu, Kelechi Iheanacho and captain Ahmed Musa to be listed  in the squad. Officials and players of the Eagles will lodge at the Eko Hotels and Suites for the home fixture against Central Africa Republic.

The Eagles who have featured in six of the last seven World Cups lead Group C with six points after their wins over Liberia and Cape Verde.
