There was pandemonium in the Polytechnic community of Ozoro in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday morning as a protesting youth was allegedly shot dead by a yet-to-be identified policeman attached to the Ozoro Police Division.

The deceased was reportedly shot as hundreds of youths were protesting alleged police intimidation and harassment around the popular Alla Square in Ozoro.
The protesting youths were said to be demonstrating against alleged high-handedness of security personnel in the community, especially the police brutality and illegal arrest as well as the use of POS to extort money from suspects.
Although the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was confirmed dead on arrival as he was said to have been “shot on the head”.
The incident reportedly happened at about 9am when one of the policemen drafted to maintain peace during “the peaceful protest” suddenly pulled the trigger on the deceased.
Consequently, the alleged killing has resulted in riot in Ozoro, the host community to one of the three Delta State Polytechnics.
However, efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, for details was futile.
