Nigerian superstar and Grammy nominee David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that his hit single With You featuring Omah Lay nearly didn’t make it onto his 5IVE album.
Speaking in an interview with OkayAfrica, shared by HYPETRIBE on Monday, Davido revealed that the song failed to stand out during internal listening sessions and was not ranked among his team’s favourites.
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.
The singer admitted that the song’s eventual success has since become an emotional reminder of how close it came to being left out.
“And now look at it go. Every time I perform it, my heart just starts beating. I keep thinking, what if I didn’t put this song?” he added.
With You later earned Davido another Grammy nomination and has grown into one of his most successful recent releases, topping charts and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
Davido also shared how he learned about the nomination, describing the moment as completely unexpected. According to him, the call came while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday, as he stepped out to inspect a car.
“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, the award-winning artist said his focus is now on touring and releasing new music. He also confirmed that he will perform at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup.
Davido is set to perform on both Saturdays, April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.
