Danish aid worker shares new photos of young girl accused of being a witch, beaten and thrown into the streets in Akwa Ibom

Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven, has shared before and after photos of a young girl she and her team rescued from the streets of Akwa Ibom.

Ms Loven, who shared the photos in a Facebook post on Friday, said the young girl ended up on the streets after she was accused of being a witch, b3aten and ostracised.

According to Loven, Christiana has started school after undergoing 8 months of intense therapy and medical treatment to recover from the trauma.

“Christiana was rescued earlier this year. She had to get medical support and therapy to recover from the trauma of being rejected, beaten and abused. When a child is accused of being a witch they will be outcasted by society and end up on the street,” she wrote.

“Street life is brutal and not many survive. After 8 months of intense therapy and medical treatment Christiana is finally strong enough and started school this week.”
