Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the closure of Nkwo Nnewi Spare Parts Market for one week due to traders’ failure to comply with the state government’s directive to resume full business activities on Mondays.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, carried out the closure on behalf of the state government.
The decision comes just weeks after the governor shut down the Onitsha Main Market for similar non-compliance with the Monday trading directive.
According to the statement, the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market in Nkwo Nnewi was sealed due to low adherence to the governor’s order ending the Monday sit-at-home in the state.
The enforcement team included Chief Evarist Uba, Commissioner for Information Dr. Law Mefor, Special Adviser on Security AVM Ben Chiobi (retd), and Nnewi Mayor Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
The closure takes effect from midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, and the market is scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026. Traders and customers have been advised to stay away during this period to avoid clashes with law enforcement officials.
The government further warned that stricter measures, including an extended shutdown, may follow if traders fail to show significant compliance upon reopening.
