Chaos in Kano: Police Station Stormed by Armed Protesters, Multiple Casualties Reported

At least one person has been confirmed dead while others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a mob action at the Garko Police Division in Kano State.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesman explained that the mob attacked the station while protesting the death of a resident of the Wudil area, who was allegedly killed by three suspects.
According to the statement, on Friday, September 5th, 2025, officers from Wudil Area Command arrested three suspects in connection with the killing. They brought them to the Garko Police Division for further investigation.
The statement explained that while the suspects were undergoing interrogation, a crowd of youths armed with sticks and stones, protesting the death of the victim, “violently attacked the Division, disrupting police activities with the intent to lynch the arrested suspects”.
He said the mob action resulted in significant property damage, including the burning of a divisional patrol vehicle, the destruction of three vehicles belonging to Hisbah and Garko Local Government Council, and the breaking of windows of the police divisional building.
“Three police personnel sustained injuries and were rushed to Wudil Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
“Tragically, during the chaos, a burning tyre burst and struck one of the frontline attackers, leading to his death, and three others sustained injuries.
“The Commissioner of Police, in a swift response, directed containment operations, including stakeholder engagements that immediately restored normalcy and public order in the community.
“Meanwhile, nine suspects have been arrested for their roles in the mob action. The statement added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other perpetrators involved in the attack.
