Bode Ojajuni resumes office as new Ogun Commissioner of Police

The new Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, officially resumed duties at the command’s headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta on Monday.

Ojajuni who is the 38th Commissioner of Police replaced CP Lanre Ogunlow who was recently promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General, AIG.

Ugamatv reports that Ojajuni was a former Lagos State PPRO and Interpol Commissioner, who joined the police force in 1996 as a cadet ASP.

Speaking during a maiden press briefing held at the command’s headquarters, Ojajuni asserted that under his watch, there would be zero tolerance for abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards members of the public, violations of human rights, and corruption.

He advised officers of the command to treat members of the public with respect, stressing that they must remain professional in the discharge of their duties.

“Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times.

“I enjoin all officers and men to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and the utmost respect. We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties. Respect, as they say, is reciprocal. Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect. See us as partners and work hand in hand with us in our shared responsibility of maintaining law and order.

“Furthermore, the X-Squad and the Police Monitoring Unit will be fully deployed and strengthened to ensure internal discipline and professional conduct among officers and men. There will be no safe haven for misconduct.

“Let me reiterate that the few bad eggs within our ranks will not be allowed to drag the good name of the Force into disrepute. I encourage both officers and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any wrongdoing through the appropriate channels.”

Meanwhile, he assured members of the public that the peace and security of the state remains his top priority, stressing that he will be accessible, responsive and committed to proactive policing strategies that will guarantee safety across the state.
