A representative of the Awhum Traditional group has alleged that the tree incident was caused by a fire lit under it two years ago by members of the Catholic Charismatic Movement. According to him, the candlelight prayer reportedly weakened the tree over time, which he claims led to its fall during a recent rainfall.

He further stated that he had previously written petitions to the local government chairman concerning the matter.

Despite the allegations, he emphasized that everyone should be allowed to worship according to their beliefs, noting that Nigeria guarantees freedom of religion. He called for mutual respect among religious groups in the community to maintain peace and harmony.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Catholic community or local authorities. Investigations and dialogue are expected as stakeholders work to prevent further tension.
